Tobermory is a picturesque harbour on the Hebridean Isle of Mull, which lies off the west coast of Scotland. As one of the safest anchorages in the Hebrides, the original name for the distillery, Ledaig (pronounced Lea-chaig) is Gaelic for "safe haven". The distillery is situated at the southern end of the famous and well photographed harbour with its brightly painted buildings and lively atmosphere.

The name "Tobermory" is derived from the Gaelic "Tobar Mhoire", which means "Well of Mary", and relates to the well and chapel of St. Mary.

The distillery bottles five single malts and switches between producing Tobermory, lightly peated, and Ledaig, which is heavily peated.
