In the heart of Speyside near Dufftown William Grant
built the distillery in 1886, a year later the first Glenfiddich spirit
trickled from the stills. Today one in every five bottles of single malt whisky
sold is a bottle of Glenfiddich making it the best-selling single malt whisky
in the world.
"Glenfiddich" means "Valley of the
Deer" in Gaelic. Surrounded by lusch forest and with the River Fiddich
flowing through it, the valley in question comes not only with the distillery
but the ruins of a medieval castle and the natural spring Robbie Dhu supplying
the distillery.

Information about the tour at Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery
Tour in short: Situated on a pleasant site just outside Dufftown, the heart of the
distillery open for the visitor is the original plant built by the
Grants in 1886. Nice old stone buildings. As the first ever visitor centre, Glenfiddich deals with over 80.000 visitors a year. And what a job they do - if you don't mind the hard sell its a great visit with free tour, tutored nosings, excellent facilities, the best foreign visitor support and so on. Each visit starts with a film about the history of Glenfiddich, after
which you will see the heart of the Glenfiddich operation. Feel the heat rising
from the mash tun and discover the giant washbacks, hand-made from
Douglas fir and five metres high. You pass the little army of stills and experience one of the traditional
warehouses - earthen floors, stone walls, low ceilings and quiet
atmosphere. Even a visit to the bottling plant is included. Glenfiddich complement the free tour with a Connoisseurs Tour - a special, in depth tour of Glenfiddich distillery,
which includes a visit to the atmospheric Solera warehouse and ends
with a tutored nosing and tasting session. The tour takes approximately
2.5 hours. Price £20 per person. Maximum of 12 people per tour. Over 18s only. During the summer season the visitor centre is very busy. Glenfiddich therefore recommend that you book online to reserve your tour in advance.
