The history of Auchentoshan Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery
History of the distillery: Founded: Licensed in 1823 at the foot of the Kilpatrick hills by the River Clyde. Whisky was probably distilled on the site before the distillery was licensed in 1823. There are written records from 1649 of a monastery that would have had knowledge of the art of distilling. Further back in history Old Kilpatrick was one of the forts along the Antonine wall that marked the limit of the Roman Empire towards the tribes in the north.
