Nestled in picturesque hilly area in Perthshire not
far from the river Turret, on the outskirts of Crieff, Glenturret is one of the
smallest, most visited and oldest distilleries in Scotland. With a total production staff of only six, they are hugely
outnumbered by the 200.000 visitors each year. Glenturrets famous cat, Towser,
is featured in the Guiness Book of records, having killed 28899 mice. Many
official bottlings are sold at the visitor centre, yet largely focused on
Famous Grouse. There are also independent bottlings.

The history of Glenturret Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery The Famous Grouse Experience
History of the distillery: Glenturret distillery it dates from 1775 and
illicit stills on the site go back as far as 1717. Back then the mediaeval city
of Crieff was a Victorian spa town with illicit distilling carried out in the
hills all around. Some of the buildings from that time are still in use. The
distillery closed in 1921 and was used to store whisky. Two years later it was
partially dismantled and used as a barn until 1959 when it was revived by James
Fairlie. From 1981 to 1990, the distillery belonged to the Cointreau company.
They passed it on in 1993 to the Highland Distillers group, acquired in 1999 by
the Edrington Group.
