The history of Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery
History of the distillery: The Grant brothers were
successful, the Morayshire barley and soft Highland spring water returned 180
000 litres annualy in 1840s, which was a considerable amount in those days. It was one
of the first industrial premises in the North of Scotland to have electric
light and could boast refrigeration, a hydraulic warehouse lift, and its own
fire service. The distillery was passed on to James Grant Junior, famous for
his his journeys to India and South Africa. To boost production he built a second distillery across the road named
Glen Grant No 2. With the help of a pipeline the whisky was vatted together. However
the Excise were not happy that a whisky from two distilleries was sold under one
name. The problem was solved in the late 19th century when the Pattison Crash mothballed
Glen Grant No 2 (later reopened in 1965 under the name of Caperdonich).
