If not the smallest – Edradour is one of the prettiest and original ”farm” distilleries nestling in a pocket glen in the hills above Pitlochry in the Southern Highlands. The stills are the smallest possible as prescribed by Excise regulations and only a few casks are produced each day. The whisky is hand made today as it has been for over 150 years by just three men. Much of the equipment used at the distillery has remained unchanged. The distillery did not get electricity until 1947.

The history of Edradour Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery
History of the distillery: Edradour was founded in 1825 by local farmers as ‘The Glenforres Distillery’. It was succesfull and some of them formed the ‘John McGlashan and Company’, which later was passed into American hands until 1922, when William Whitely took over and created the ‘Kings Ransom’, one of the most highly regarded blends of the time. Pernod Ricard bought the distillery in 1982 and bottled the first Edradour Single Malt in 1986. The current owners, the independent bottling company Signatory who bought Edradour in 2000, bottle as much as 90 percent of the production as single malt.
